Socially-Distant Summer Fun at these Marin Beaches

Marin County’s phased reopening has now allowed us to start enjoying some of our beaches, just in time for summer! With parking access available for many beaches, we can now head out and enjoy some vitamin SEA! Just remember to follow the recommendations from Marin’s National Park Service:

Plan your visit before you come

Bring everything you need—including water, food, and hand sanitizer—and take everything home. Leave No Trace.

Maintain at least 6 feet of physical distance

Wear a mask when near others

Head over to any of these beaches and beat the summer heat!

China Camp State Park

101 Peacock Gap Trail, San Rafael, CA 94901

While the campgrounds and visitor center are still closed, you can still enjoy fishing or walking along the shore at China Camp’s beach. Enjoy the fresh breeze and soak in some sun, or go for a hike along the Shoreline/Bayview Loop trail and enjoy the spectacular views of the bay. The calm bay waters are also perfect for kayaking or canoeing, or just going for a swim!

Muir Beach

Mill Valley, CA 94965

Muir Beach’s cove is a local favorite due to its hidden nature. Get in a little quiet time in the midst of nature, or to walk along the Dias Ridge trail, which offers breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean and Marin coastline. Redwood Creek at Muir Beach is also home to a variety of shorebirds, amphibians, salmon and trout, so you can enjoy a little critter watching as well!

Heart’s Desire Beach

1100 Pierce Point Rd, Inverness, CA 94937

Located at the heart of Tomales Bay State Park, Heart’s Desire is conveniently close to the recently opened parking lots, so it makes for an easily accessible beach especially for those who have mobility concerns. Go for a quick splash on its family friendly waters, or check out the hiking trails which lead to Indian Beach in the north and Pebble Beach in the south.

Drake’s Beach

Point Reyes National Seashore, Inverness, CA 94937

The drive up access to Drake’s Beach makes it the perfect spot for a quick visit. Take a stroll along its wide stretch of sandy beach and enjoy the beautiful backdrop of white sandstone cliffs. The waters have a mellow surf that allows for paddleboarding and playing along the shore.

Stinson Beach

3514 Shoreline Hwy Stinson Beach, CA 94970

Stinson Beach is one of the best swimming beaches due to its white sand and ocean front. Go for a swim or enjoy a picnic. If fishing is your thing, bring tack and lures and spend a mellow day trying to catch a bite!
