Marin County Staycation Ideas

With the summer in full swing, you might be looking forward to a little vacation. But with restrictions still in place, going out of town may be more of a challenge. Not to worry though, Marin County has plenty to offer for a wonderful  “staycation” you can enjoy with the family!

Go on a Tour

Beginning August, some tours will be available for a few of Marin’s numerous guided tours. Have a cheese fun time at one of Point Reyes Cheese Company’s Pop Up Dining experiences. If you want to explore The Bay and go on a cruise, SF Bay Adventures offers public sails at limited capacity via their website. For the ultimate foodie experience, Food & Farm Tours offers a variety of expeditions like the Flavors of Point Reyes, Cheese Lover’s Tour, and Oyster Lover’s Tour.

Hit the Beaches

With the hot summer sun beating down on us, going for a little splash is a great change of pace after being cooped up indoors for a while. And the phased reopening has allowed us the opportunity to have fun in our beautiful shores. We have made a list of Marin Beaches you can visit, including Stinson Beach, Heart’s  Desire in Inverness, and Muir Beach in Mill Valley.

Try Hiking

Sure, we’ve probably had a chance to go for a hike some time or other over the course of spring, but with more national parks opened and some facilities resuming service, now is a great time to venture a little farther out for your hiking adventures. We have collected Six Day Hikes you can take so you can go for a hike and head on home in the same day. If you’re looking for something a little more cooling, you can also check out these Hiking Trails with Waterfall Endings .

Explore the Waters

Marin and the San Francisco bay offers a lot of opportunities for fishing as well as a variety of water sports like kayaking, paddleboarding, surfing, and more. Blue Waters Kayaking offers rentals and tours as well as opportunities to explore Tomales Bay.  If fishing is your thing, you can come around China Camp State Park, McNears Beach, and even at any of the Marin Municipal Watershed lakes.

Camp Out

With the numerous environs to choose from, camping in Marin County makes for an exciting adventure. Choose any of the shores for a saltwater campout, or roll out your sleeping bag on a mountain or redwood forest. Angel Island has 11 environmental sites where you can immerse yourself in the beauty of nature safely. And while centers are still closed in the Marin Headlands, you can still camp out in the great outdoors of the park.
